Review - 20,300 enthusiastic visitors at the fourth Industry Night Regio Basel

With over 230 tours and workshops, this year’s programme was particularly varied: visitors tinkered in laboratories, explored the district heating network, inserted implants into models and steered ships and trains in simulations.

Following three successful events, the fourth Industry Night Regio Basel is set to take place on 24 April 2026.

All the Information You Need
Friday 24 April is Industry Night. This summary offers all the details you need to plan your evening, leaving you to immerse yourself in the events on the night.

Connected to the world
Every day, countless container ships leave the port of Rotterdam. Some of them sail up the Rhine as far as Basel. At the Port of Switzerland in Kleinhüningen, the containers are loaded onto trains or lorries, rattle through the marshalling yard and finally reach their destination in Switzerland.

Hotel accommodation and ticket

Handmade
Some things take time: kneading dough, crafting a piece of wooden furniture, brewing beer, pressing grapes to make wine. This work cannot be fully automated. It thrives on people who know and love their craft. At the Industry Night, it is precisely these businesses that open their doors.

The infrastructure in your everyday life
In our everyday lives, water, energy and the internet seem to flow seamlessly. Behind this, however, lies a complex infrastructure that visitors can experience first-hand at the Industry Night.

Industrial sites (Part 3/3): The distribution network
Getting goods to arrive is one thing. Getting them to the right place at the right time is another – and one that has been a concern for Basel’s economy for centuries.

Wir reden Bartext (Part 3/3): Benjamin Bianchi, Delica
Delica, Switzerland’s second-largest coffee roastery, is based in Birsfelden. Benjamin Bianchi and his team keep it running.

Wir reden Bartext (Part 2/3): Anja Adam, Theater Basel
How much more toilet paper does Theater Basel need now that the Foyer Public is open to the public? Anja Adam is still working out the answer to that question. She has all the other answers ready in this episode.

Industrial sites (Part 2/3): The Dreispitz site
Right in the heart of Basel, between Rotterdamstrasse and Florenzstrasse, lies an area that looks like a city within a city – and which, until a few decades ago, almost no one from outside was allowed to enter.

Climb cranes, explore the catacombs of the railway station, understand diseases in the laboratory
The programme for Industry Night Regio Basel is online. It has never been as extensive as this year: on 24 April, the public can embark on over 230 adventures.

Wir reden Bartext (Part 1/3): Maria Beuschel, Optiswiss

Industry Night showcases just how diverse the economy in our region is. It’s impressive, but it also leaves you spoilt for choice. Here’s my recommendation for an exciting tour covering the themes of supply, innovation and mobility.

Tour suggestion by Karin Vallone
Diverse, exciting and full of opportunities – that’s what the training pathways and career opportunities in the Basel region are all about. My suggested tour for the whole family invites young and old alike to discover different careers together, be amazed and gain new insights.

Tour suggestion by Andreas Fries
What fascinates me about the Industry Night Regio Basel is how spaces that are usually hidden from view are brought to light. Workshops, production halls, laboratories, infrastructure and machinery all tell their own stories here.

Tour suggestion by Mustafa Atici
The Industry Night Regio Basel is a striking demonstration of just how diverse, innovative and vibrant the Basel economic region is. It highlights what makes Basel such a strong business location: committed companies, highly qualified professionals and a vocational training system that closely combines theory and practice.

Tour suggestion by Philipp Probst
To be honest: I could stay until morning at every company taking part in Industry Night and ask the staff all sorts of questions. And, of course, try everything out for myself.

A Colourful Programme for Children
Industry Night has something for everyone, young and old alike. Some of the activities are specifically aimed at families with children. Here’s an overview.

Industrial sites (Part 1/3): The Rhine Port
Basel is not located by the sea. And yet, for over a century, the Rhine has been one of Switzerland’s most important trade routes.

Tour suggestion by Irene Amstutz
Industry Night isn’t just about showcasing the world of work; it’s also a cultural event. I enjoy exploring companies or organisations that combine business and culture.

Port, warehouses, network – the economic history of Basel
What lies behind Basel as a business hub? The podcast “Überall Geschichte!” sets out to uncover the story in three episodes.

Discover the world of life sciences
Around 800 companies in the region are active in the life sciences sector. Some of them will be opening their doors during Industry Night. Novartis, for example, is offering exclusive insights into its biotech site on the Klybeck site, which opened in 2007. There, 180 employees produce and test active ingredients for clinical trials and commercial marketing. A visit during Industry Night is well worth it!
