About Hafenbahn Schweiz
Hafenbahn Schweiz AG is a subsidiary of Schweizerische Rheinhäfen, a public-law institution founded in 2008. As a railway infrastructure company, Hafenbahn Schweiz owns and operates the port railway facilities in Kleinhüningen (Canton of Basel-Stadt) and Birsfelden/Muttenz Auhafen (Canton of Basel-Landschaft). It also owns and operates the associated access routes from the marshalling yards at Basel Bad station and Basel SBB station, as well as the Schweizerhalle railway facility. The port railway facilities consist of around 50 kilometres of track, on which around 4 million tonnes of goods are transported annually – this corresponds to two-thirds of the goods handled in the Swiss Rhine ports.
